How to Go Green during Your Menstrual Period

A menstrual period is not typically an area of a woman’s life where she thinks about going green. But it’s worth doing, as conventional products used during this time of the month contribute to air, land, and water pollution. Help save the environment by using eco-friendly menstruation products.

Things You'll Need:

* an open mind
* a wholesome diet
* time for exercise
* an eco-friendly product for menstrual bleeding

INTRUCTIONS :

1. USE NATURAL CURES FOR PMS
Instead of relying on a manufactured pill to relieve your PMS pain, try earth-friendly practices. A wholesome diet, limited in fatty and sugary foods, can do wonders to curb the usual PMS symptoms. Reducing caffeinated products is another idea, especially if you are particularly moody during your menstrual period. Cutting back on salt helps to reduce bloat.

Exercising is another way to ease PMS symptoms. You may be tempted to curl up into a ball when the cramping begins, but try doing your favorite exercises instead. The movement will release endorphins into your brain, giving you that “feel-good” high. If you can, exercise outdoors around a natural living environment. Being around nature has been proven to reduce stress and depression.

2. SWITCH TO A MENSTRUAL CUP
Using a menstrual cup is the ultimate in menstruation products. Not only is it a great way to go green, you’ll also save quite a bit of money in the long run. Today’s menstrual cups are flexible and fit snugly, so you can move around with ease and not have to worry about leakage.

3. USE WASHABLE SANITARY PADS
If a menstrual cup is not your cup of tea, then consider making the switch from tampons to reusable sanitary pads. Having to wash them may sound icky, but it’s really not that big of a deal. Just wash the pads (in a load separate from other clothes) in hot water on a heavy cycle and this gets the job done.

You can make your own (there are instructional articles and videos available online) or purchase them at a store specializing in earth-friendly products. Using washable sanitary pads is another way to go green while saving money in the process.

4.TRY ORGANIC TAMPONS
If you insist on using tampons, don’t worry; you can still go green. Look for organic tampons that are chlorine-free and made with certified organic cotton. By using organic tampons, you’ll reduce the amount of pesticides and other harmful chemicals that are released into our environment as with conventional tampon production. -motherearth
