This article will give some suggestions for spending quality time with your kids while helping to save the planet.
Instructions :
- Spend a day at the beach; it's a wonderful way to engage children in the beauty of the ocean and the many specialized eco-systems that can only survive in the marine niches of our environment. It's a perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and play together as a family without having to spend too much money. You can pack a beach lunch, but don't forget to include sun protection.
- Go out into the woods, forests, deserts or other natural biomes in your area and collect some of the natural growths or objects that you find; this can be educational as well as fun. For example, take the kids out with you for a weekend camping trip or organize a group of family and friends to take a nature trip. Schedule group activities, for example, gathering and collecting indigenous foliage and plants that grow in your local woods or forests. Then ask the kids to be creative and make or decorate something using what they've gathered.
- Be educated and "green" aware when you shop with the kids and learn together about becoming eco-conscious with your purchases. For example, practice buying recycled goods such as paper and earth-saving clothing.
- Teach the kids to eat healthier and "green." Buy organic products and locally grown fruits and vegetables. Growing locally also benefits the environment by reducing the amount of oil needed to transport the goods hundreds or thousands of miles away. Locally grown foods are also fresher and not overly processed like packaged goods and ensure higher quality control.
- Take the kids to watch wildlife so they can be more in touch with the beauty of animals. A day's trip to the local zoo or a summer safari vacation (if your budget allows) will be an educational and fun experience for them. Also, find out if your local community or city hosts urban wildlife trips.
- Stroll through the local park or botanical gardens. Take the kids to local galleries that display nature objects and exhibits with a nature or environmental theme.
- It is easier to buy earth-saving clothing on the Net.
- Sign up for the National Wildlife Federation's monthly newsletter containing fun nature activities designed for kids and parents.
